Trains limited to 50 km/h in Skopje today because of heat
Temporary 50 km/h limit in train traffic between 11:00 and 17:00 on 22 August 2026 due to high temperatures.

The Regional Crisis Management Centre – City of Skopje announced that, on 22 August 2026, a temporary speed restriction was introduced for rail traffic because of very high temperatures.
Rail services continue to operate on schedule, but between 11:00 and 17:00 the maximum permitted speed for trains has been reduced to 50 km/h.
Safety measure against rail deformation
Authorities say the restriction is preventive: at extreme heat rails can expand and deform, so trains are slowed to minimise risk and to ensure passenger and infrastructure safety.
Passengers are advised to expect longer journey times during the hours of restriction. Rail operators and the crisis centre said they will monitor conditions and lift the limit when temperatures fall and track inspections allow.
