Wildfire burns in Chanište fields; several old abandoned houses destroyed

A wildfire burned across agricultural land around the village of Chanište, where crews battled flames on two separate fronts overnight.

The Directorate for Protection and Rescue (DZS) said a team made up of volunteer firefighters from Bitola worked through the night to contain the fire. According to the latest information from DZS, no inhabited houses in the village were destroyed.

Local damage and safety

Firefighters reported that several old, abandoned houses — as well as dwellings used only occasionally by their owners — were consumed by the blaze. Authorities confirmed there were no injuries and that residents remained in their homes last night.

Two municipal councillors from Prilep visited Chanište and pledged assistance for affected residents. Local crews continue to monitor hot spots to prevent renewed flare-ups.

Authorities have not reported any evacuated settlements or casualties, and the response effort focused on preventing the fire from spreading to inhabited areas and agricultural properties.

Weather conditions and the exact cause of the blaze have not been publicly disclosed; DZS crews and volunteers remain on site while investigations and containment work proceed.
