Skopje Airport limits free curbside stop to once per day starting 1 September 2026

From 1 September 2026, the roadway directly in front of Skopje Airport's terminal will remain a free short-stop zone, but each vehicle will be permitted to use that free 10‑minute stop only once within a 24‑hour period.

The airport operator said the change means drivers who drop off or pick up passengers can still stop for up to 10 minutes without charge, yet the new rule limits that free entry, transit and parking to a single occurrence every 24 hours for the same vehicle.

Reason and technology behind the change

"The change is aimed at maintaining uninterrupted vehicle flow to the airport and ensuring safe conditions for passengers, visitors and drivers when accessing the terminal. Automatic recognition of license plates will enable efficient management of access and uninterrupted traffic flow, especially during periods of increased passenger frequency," TAV Macedonia said.

The operator explained that automatic licence‑plate recognition will be used to register each vehicle's free stop and enforce the one‑stop‑per‑24‑hours policy, with the system tracking entries and exits to prevent repeated free stops by the same car.

Airport officials framed the measure as a traffic‑management step intended to reduce congestion at the terminal frontage, particularly at times with high passenger volumes. Under the new arrangement, drivers should plan to use the curbside drop‑off or pick‑up only once per day if they wish to avoid parking fees or leaving the area.

Passengers and visitors are advised to allow a little extra time for arrival and departure at the terminal, since the new rule aims to keep vehicle circulation smoother and access safer for everyone using the airport.
