Frosty Pocket SLUSHY recalled: four children's slushie flavours withdrawn
Croatian inspectors ordered an immediate withdrawal after unauthorized glycerol (E422) was detected in four 160 g Frosty Pocket SLUSHY products; consumers should return purchases.
A batch of Frosty Pocket SLUSHY frozen liquid desserts has been urgently recalled after tests detected the unauthorized additive glycerol (E422) in the products, Croatia's State Inspectorate announced. Retailers have been instructed to remove the affected items from sale and consumers are advised to return purchases immediately.
Products withdrawn from sale
The recall covers four 160-gram SLUSHY Fruta items with the following identifiers:
- SLUSHY Fruta Dracula — EAN 8435660200774, use‑by date 30.11.2027
- SLUSHY Fruta Jagoda — EAN 8435660200750, use‑by date 30.10.2027
- SLUSHY Fruta Limon — EAN 8435440200767, use‑by date 30.10.2027
- SLUSHY Fruta Shumsko ovoshje — EAN 8435660200781, use‑by date 30.10.2027
The products are manufactured by the Spanish company Granizados Maresme S.L., and distributed in Croatia by Meli Tehnologije d.o.o. of Zagreb. Authorities urge anyone who bought these pouches not to give them to children and to return them to the point of purchase.
Although glycerol (E422) is generally permitted as an additive in many confectionery products, the problem here is its use in this particular product category. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) places legal limits on which additives can be used in liquid frozen desserts and slushie-style products intended mainly for young children; in this case glycerol was present but not authorized for that specific formulation.
Regulators warn that, in larger amounts, glycerol can cause adverse effects in small children such as headaches, nausea or a laxative reaction. Parents in North Macedonia are specifically asked to check shelves and any items bought during travel to neighbouring countries.
If you find any of the listed SLUSHY products in shops or at home, do not feed them to children and report the purchase to the State Market Inspectorate or the Agency for Food and Veterinary (AHV).
