Transport operators in Struga suspend services to 11 villages from tomorrow
Operators demand full payment within 15 days and a zonal tariff revision; mayor says the municipality owes €60,000 to be paid in installments.

Transport operators in Struga suspend services to 11 villages from tomorrow over unpaid municipal bills.
Operators say they will halt routes serving 11 villages until the Municipality settles outstanding debts and revises zonal fares; the move comes one week before the new school year begins.
Demands and deadline
Local carriers have formally notified the municipal authorities that they expect payment of all overdue amounts within 15 days and an immediate audit and correction to increase prices by zone to reflect current economic conditions. According to the transporters, their petition was sent last month but no solution has been delivered, so they will stop running services beginning tomorrow until the issues are resolved.
The suspension affects regular connections to 11 villages around Struga and, operators warn, will leave students from those communities without reliable transport to school if the dispute is not settled quickly; the stoppage is timed just one week before the academic year starts.
Mayor Kjura states the outstanding municipal debt totals €60,000 and that the administration plans to pay it in installments over a two-to-three month period, adding that the liability was inherited from the previous authorities.
Transport companies counter that the arrears include sums from 2025 and 2026. They say that despite irregular payments they continued to operate responsibly and professionally, prioritizing public service, but that the situation is no longer sustainable because they have been effectively financing the service with their own funds for an extended period.
