Two Turkish nationals detained on suspicion of selling marijuana in Shtip
Police say searches turned up drugs, a digital scale, money in different currencies and other items; both suspects were detained.
Two Turkish nationals — a 24‑year‑old man and a 21‑year‑old woman — have been detained on suspicion of selling marijuana in Shtip, where both were temporarily staying.
The operation took place on Saturday evening at about 22:00 on Shtipski Sokak, when police, acting on prior information, encountered the two Turkish citizens selling marijuana to a 23‑year‑old local resident. The suspects fled before officers could detain them, but one was captured shortly afterwards and deprived of liberty.
Police informed a public prosecutor and a pre‑trial judge, and carried out a search at the home of the person who had initially fled. Officers found the 21‑year‑old woman there; she also had temporary residence in Shtip.
During the search, investigators discovered several small bags and multiple packages containing marijuana, a white powdery substance and a digital scale.
Further search with court order uncovered additional evidence
With a court order, police then searched the apartment where the woman had been staying and seized more marijuana, a grinder, cash in various currencies and other items the authorities say are suspected proceeds or tools of criminal activity.
Both Turkish nationals have been placed in custody. The 23‑year‑old Shtip resident who purchased marijuana on Shtipski Sokak was also arrested during the police action. The investigation is ongoing.
