Police across North Macedonia detained 13 drivers over a 24-hour period on charges described by officials as "reckless driving", the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

Among those taken into custody, eight were driving without having passed a driving test: four in Skopje and one each in Kumanovo, Tetovo, Lipkovo and Kichevo.

Other cases included one motorist found driving under the influence in Kavadarci and another in Veles who was operating a vehicle despite having an active ban on driving.

Speeding and foreigners among the detained

The ministry added that a citizen of Turkey and a citizen of Ukraine were also detained after being recorded driving at twice the permitted speed — one on the A-1 motorway near Demir Kapija and the other on the Skopje–Veles highway. After investigators complete case documentation, appropriate criminal charges will be filed, the ministry said.

Officials appealed to all road users to respect traffic laws and regulations: do not drive without a valid licence, do not drive if subject to a prohibition on operating vehicles, and do not drive under the influence of alcohol, the Ministry of Internal Affairs urged.
