Rectorate of Goce Delchev University announces full cooperation after police action

After the Ministry of Interior (MVR) announced that police were carrying out searches at multiple locations in Shtip and Skopje over alleged misconduct by the head of the information technology sector at Goce Delchev University in Shtip, the university rectorate issued an official statement.

The rectorate said the university will provide full and unrestricted cooperation with the MVR and the Public Prosecutor's Office to ensure a swift and complete clarification of the case. It reiterated the institution's zero tolerance for corruption and any misuse of the academic community.

Rectorate response

In its reaction the rectorate emphasised that such incidents undermine academic quality and that addressing them helps secure "better, higher-quality and more objective studying" for students. The statement stressed that students and their education remain at the centre of the university's efforts.

"UGD remains committed to fundamental academic values, to honesty and truthfulness and remains proactive in combating deviant phenomena. Our students and their education remain at the centre of all our activities. The teaching process, academic obligations, scientific research work and international cooperation with a number of renowned European universities continue to be our priority," the rectorate of UGD Shtip said.

The university also said it will not allow any suspicion to damage the value of degrees held by thousands of honest students or the reputation of its staff.

Earlier the MVR reported that searches were under way at several locations in Shtip and Skopje as part of an investigation into "abuse of official position and authorisation, damage and unauthorised access to a computer system" allegedly involving the head of the IT sector at Goce Delchev University in Shtip.
