Roma completed late comeback to beat Atalanta 2-1 at Olimpico

Roma completed a dramatic late comeback to beat Atalanta 2-1 at the Olimpico on September 5, 2026, in the third round of Serie A.

Atalanta took the lead shortly after the interval when Ederson struck in the 47th minute, putting the visitors from Bergamo ahead.

For long stretches Atalanta defended that lead and looked set to leave Rome with all three points, but Roma staged a late rally.

Decisive final minutes

Mario Ermoso levelled for the hosts in the 90th minute, and just three minutes later Matthias Sule scored the winner to make it 2-1.

The victory kept Roma on a perfect record: three wins from three matches and nine points. Atalanta remained on six points after the opening three rounds.

North Macedonian international Elif Elmas started for Atalanta and was on the field for 66 minutes.
