Two foreign drivers — a 24-year-old Dutch national identified by initials D.G.T. and a 43-year-old Romanian identified as G.M. — received suspended prison sentences, fines and a driving ban in North Macedonia after being recorded driving at more than 175 km/h on the motorway near Demir Kapija.

The overspeeding was registered by the "Safe City" system and the two were later arrested at the Tabanovce border crossing: D.G.T. on 5 October and G.M. on 6 October. Both have been charged with the criminal offense of reckless driving of a motor vehicle.

The Basic Court in Negotino issued an alternative sanction in the form of a conditional sentence: a three-month prison term that will not be executed provided the defendants commit no new criminal offence within one year after the judgment becomes final.

In addition to the suspended prison term, the court imposed a one-year ban on driving vehicles of category B throughout the territory of North Macedonia and a fine in the amount of one thousand euros in denar equivalent.

Authorities say the cases were uncovered thanks to automated speed enforcement linked to the city surveillance system. Prosecutors brought criminal charges for what they described as disproportionately high speed on a public motorway.

The sentences close the legal proceedings recorded by the court; the defendants may still pursue ordinary legal remedies available under Macedonian law.
