Rumen Radev: Bulgaria will not contribute funds to Ukraine anymore

Bulgaria will not take part in the European Union's financial aid package for Ukraine, Prime Minister Rumen Radev said.

At a recent EU summit President Volodymyr Zelensky asked the Union for an additional €70 billion for next year so Ukraine can continue to defend itself against the Russian invasion.

Radev rejects participation in the €70 billion proposal

Commenting on that request, Radev told reporters that Sofia cannot be involved. "How does that look to you, given everything that is happening in Europe? Bulgaria cannot in any way be involved in those €70 billion," he said.

The statement signals a clear refusal from the Bulgarian government to join new collective EU funding efforts intended to support Ukraine's defence and reconstruction next year.

Radev's position may affect discussions inside the EU as member states weigh how to distribute the requested sum and whether national contributions will be sought to meet the total figure.
