Russian strikes across Ukraine kill at least three; Moscow reports 600 drones launched toward the capital

At least three people were killed and more than ten injured in a fresh wave of Russian strikes across Ukraine, Ukrainian authorities reported on August 16, 2026. Kyiv was hit overnight by missiles and drones; firefighters worked through the night to put out a blaze at a market after it was struck.

Strikes spread from Kyiv to southern regions and beyond

In the capital, air-raid sirens sounded four times on the night of August 15–16. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said six people were injured in the city and its region, including one child. Ukrainian officials said they shot down three Russian missiles and nearly 100 unmanned aerial vehicles during the attacks.

In the south, Zaporizhzhia regional head Ivan Fedorov reported that two people were killed after a guided aerial bomb struck and destroyed a house. Authorities in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast recorded one death and 14 wounded.

Moscow officials said the Russian capital was targeted by a very large drone wave. "Ukraine launched 600 drones toward Moscow," the Moscow mayor said, adding that roughly one third of the incoming drones were destroyed. A logistics warehouse belonging to the online retailer Wildberries in Koledino — about 25 kilometres from central Moscow — was damaged and seen burning in video footage.

Kiev has repeatedly said it is striking logistical hubs that it believes are used to provision Russian forces; Wildberries has been hit several times since July, according to statements from Russian officials and social media posts. Moscow reported three people injured in the Russian attacks.

Separately, the Romanian Ministry of Defence said a Spanish F-18, operating under NATO deployment, intercepted and shot down a drone that entered Romanian airspace from Moldova near the Ukrainian and Moldovan border. Debris fell in an uninhabited area of Galați region at 05:01 local time on August 16.
