Russian strikes on Kyiv injure at least 18, including children

At least 18 people, including two children, were injured after Russian forces launched a major overnight assault on Kyiv, striking the Ukrainian capital with missiles and drones, local officials said. Residential buildings, businesses, warehouses and water-supply infrastructure suffered damage during the attacks.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko initially reported 12 wounded, including children aged 10 and 12, and said nine people were taken to hospital; later the tally rose to 16 and at 9:33 he said the number had reached 18. "The enemy continues to attack the capital. Pay attention to air danger warnings and take care," Klitschko warned.

Explosions across the city and damage to public services

Authorities reported at least ten explosions in different parts of the city within a few minutes. Windows on multiple apartment buildings were shattered and storefronts were damaged. A four-storey building belonging to a higher-education institution in the Holosiivskyi district had its façade and windows hit; a small fire broke out there and was quickly extinguished.

City utility Kyivvodokanal also sustained damage, affecting water infrastructure, and several warehouses and an area near a petrol station were hit. Eyewitness videos circulated on social media showed strikes on residential complexes and the aftermath of ballistic missile impacts.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian drones struck targets inside Russia. Initial reports said one of the targets in Rostov-on-Don was a military airfield; explosions there sparked a large blaze. Separate footage and reports indicated drones entered the industrial area of an oil refinery in Yaroslavl, where a fire broke out after the strikes.

In a separate incident referenced in the same reporting, a Russian drone reportedly struck a bus in Ukraine, killing five people.
