U.S. carries out strikes on Qeshm island in Strait of Hormuz ahead of U.S. midterms
U.S. officials say the strikes were limited and followed fire by Iran's Revolutionary Guard; IRNA reported explosions on the island.

U.S. forces carried out strikes on Qeshm island in the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. officials said, in an operation that took place on the eve of the U.S. midterm elections. Iran's state news agency IRNA reported several explosions on the island.
Limited retaliation, officials say
American representatives described the strikes as limited and framed them as a direct response after Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps opened fire on a U.S. aircraft. Officials characterised the actions as targeted and not intended to broaden the conflict.
The strikes were reported just before voting in the U.S. midterms, a timing that underscores regional tensions as U.S. policymakers manage responses to Iranian actions in the Gulf.
Iranian state media reported multiple explosions on Qeshm, though independent details from the ground have not been provided in the initial reports.
Former President Donald Trump told reporters yesterday that he was not in a hurry to escalate strikes against Iran, a comment that came as the situation in the Strait of Hormuz developed.
