Sasa Bogdanovic launches Serbian Democratic League, holds first congress

Former Centar mayor Sasa Bogdanovic returned to the political scene with a new party called the Serbian Democratic League. The party held its first electoral congress on 9 October 2026 in the Small Hall of the Philharmonic in Skopje.

In the ceremonial segment of the event Bogdanovic addressed those present as the party's president; the programme also included welcome remarks from guests and partner organisations. The congress marked the public debut of the new political formation.

Background and past roles

Bogdanovic served as mayor of the Municipality of Centar and was previously a member and official of SDSM. He was elected mayor in the 2017 local elections as SDSM's candidate, earlier chaired the party's municipal organisation in Centar and served as director of the public enterprise "Parking of the Municipality of Centar."

In March this year (2026) Bogdanovic publicly announced plans to form the Serbian Democratic League and stated that he would be its president. He said then that the party's name is connected to the political organising of Serbs in these areas from the beginning of the last century.

The congress in Skopje is the first organisational step for the Serbian Democratic League ahead of future political activity. Organisers presented the event as a formal launch and a chance to outline the party's principles and membership plans.

At this stage no further details on electoral ambitions or alliances were disclosed beyond the statements made at the congress.
