SDSM requests supervisory hearing in Assembly over Alta Bank

The parliamentary group of the opposition SDSM has formally requested a supervisory hearing in the Assembly concerning the recent developments at Alta Bank.

Request submitted to committee chair

The petition was sent to Sanja Lukarevska, chair of the Assembly Committee on Finance and Budget. In the request SDSM asks lawmakers to seek clarifications about the role of the National Bank and what the party calls the institutional responsibility for the fraud against citizens.

In the text of the initiative the group writes: "In order to obtain information and expert opinions regarding the situation that occurred with Alta Bank AD Bitola and the introduction of administration by the NBRM over it, we submit an initiative to hold a Supervisory debate on the topic: 'Reasons for introducing administration in Alta Bank AD Bitola, the role and conduct of the National Bank and the institutional responsibility for the fraud against citizens'."

Party leader Venko Filipche announced earlier the same day that SDSM would submit the request and added that the party will also file an interpellation regarding the work of the governor of the National Bank, Trajko Slaveski.

Commenting on the case, Filipche said: "For a year we warned about the suspicions related to Alta Bank and its connection with Vučić".

Under parliamentary procedure the Committee on Finance and Budget must register the initiative and decide on scheduling; if accepted, MPs will question invited officials and experts to clarify how administration was introduced and to determine institutional responsibility.
