SDSM backs LDP initiative to limit dual citizenship for officials and calls for immediate return of the bill to parliament

SDSM announced full support for the LDP initiative to adopt a law restricting dual citizenship for officeholders and urged that the parliamentary procedure for the bill be resumed immediately and passed without delays or compromises.

The party recalled that it had previously proposed a comprehensive solution that would apply the legal restrictions to all holders of public office, with no exceptions or double standards. Under SDSM's proposal, the ban on dual citizenship should cover current members of parliament, all ministers and government officials, directors of public enterprises and all other holders of public positions.

SDSM statement and criticism

In its statement SDSM directly criticized specific figures and groups it sees as failing to demonstrate loyalty. It said: "Вистинската независност и патриотизам се докажуваат со лојалност кон една држава – Македонија. Само не може да важи за Стоилковиќ, неговите колеги од БИА што го слават Ратко Младиќ и началникот на медиумите Латас. За големите српски националисти, агенти на службата за безбедност на Србија – не може да важи. Тие мораат да имаат две државјанства. Треба да ја спроведуваат српската и руската агенда и да се чувствуваат како дома и овде и таму", attributed to SDSM.

Today the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) reacted by saying the bill to revoke dual citizenship for MPs and officials remains stuck in parliamentary labyrinths. LDP pointed out that while the authorities spend public money on celebrations marking 35 years of independence, key legal measures to ensure officials' loyalty are being ignored.

LDP also delivered a concise appeal: "Прославите завршија, за вистинска независност извадете го од фиока Законот за двојно државјанство на пратениците." The party urged lawmakers to prioritize the draft law and bring it back to the plenary agenda.
