SDSM: West Nile fever outbreak in Dračevo while open‑air cinema is scheduled
SDSM says public events are being planned in Dračevo despite what it calls a West Nile fever outbreak and demands immediate health measures.

SDSM accused authorities on August 18, 2026 of ignoring what the party describes as an outbreak of West Nile fever in the Skopje suburb of Dračevo while an open‑air cinema event is being organised for residents.
The party said the situation in Dračevo requires immediate public‑health measures and sharper local coordination. SDSM demanded quick mosquito‑control operations, intensified epidemiological monitoring and clear information for citizens about risks and preventive steps.
Calls to health institutions and local government
SDSM urged the Ministry of Health and the local municipality to suspend mass gatherings until the spread of the disease is under control and to publish up‑to‑date data on suspected and confirmed cases. The party also asked that vulnerable groups be prioritised for information and, where appropriate, medical screening.
In its statement the party warned that continued promotion of public events — including outdoor cultural activities — undermines efforts to protect public health and can increase exposure to infected mosquitoes. SDSM said organisers must coordinate with health authorities before scheduling further events.
The party called for transparent reporting and immediate action to reduce the risk of further infections in Dračevo and neighbouring areas, and said authorities must communicate concrete timelines for vector control and epidemiological testing so residents can take informed precautions.
