A reinforced‑concrete retaining wall is being built at the "Panorama" branch of the Kocho Racin kindergarten in the Centar Municipality to stabilise the slope and prevent further erosion of the site.

Technical details of the intervention

The new structure was designed to follow the existing terrain and is divided into six separate sections. The total height of the wall, including its foundation, is 3.20 metres. The entire installation is constructed from reinforced concrete and carried out in accordance with applicable technical regulations and standards.

Behind the retaining wall contractors will install a drainage layer of crushed stone wrapped in geotextile to protect against erosion and to channel water away from the slope. At foundation level a PVC drainage pipe with a diameter of 300 millimetres will be placed to convey groundwater and infiltrated water from behind the wall, the municipality says.

Centar’s mayor, Goran Gerasimovski, described the project as a necessary and substantial infrastructure measure and said that child safety steps were taken before works began.

"This is a large and important project with which we permanently stabilize the ground and create safer conditions in the kindergarten. Before the construction works even began, we transferred all children from the 'Panorama' facility to the 'Beli Mugri' facility, where they continued their stay without interruption. The safety of the children is always our top priority and therefore we do not make compromises when it comes to such infrastructure interventions," said Gerasimovski.

Municipal officials emphasise that the works are intended to be a long‑term solution to the erosion risk at the site and that the temporary relocation was organised to allow uninterrupted operation of educational activities while construction is underway.
