Restoration under way for 45 damaged posts on Popova Shapka–Titov Vrv trail
Teams from SAT, Tetovo mountaineers and Shar Mountain National Park are replacing 45 vandalised winter posts on the 112-post trail between Popova Shapka and Titov Vrv.
Volunteers and park staff have begun restoring damaged trail markers on the popular hiking route between Popova Shapka and Titov Vrv after vandals recently damaged 45 winter posts along the way.
The path has a total of 112 posts. The renewal work brings together members of the Association for Sustainable Development SAT from Skopje, hikers from Tetovo and employees of Shar Mountain National Park to repair and upgrade the marking that guides visitors year‑round.
Field work and logistics
Teams spent the most recent work week replacing signposts and erecting new posts along the summer Vakafska trail that links Popova Shapka and Titov Vrv, while also clearing and hauling out damaged material from the high‑altitude tower.
"This past workweek we focused on installing new signs and posts along the summer 'Vakafska trail', which connects Popova Shapka and Titov Vrv. Thanks to the good weather conditions and the provided logistics, we managed in parallel to clean and transport part of the old windows from the tower on Titov Vrv and the damaged winter posts," said Aleksandar Bogoevski of SAT.
Organisers say the combined effort aims not only to replace the destroyed posts but to improve the overall marking system so the trail remains safe and navigable for hikers and visitors to the Šar Mountains.
