September 2026 in North Macedonia: 1.0°C above average, 48% less rain

September 2026 across North Macedonia was warmer than usual while rainfall totals fell notably below the long-term average, according to data published by the Hydrometeorological Service (UHMR).
Temperature and rainfall: national summary
Average monthly temperatures ranged from 14.2°C at Mavrovo to 22.4°C at Gevgelija. Compared with the 30-year September mean (1991–2020), the nationwide monthly average temperature was 1.0 degree above normal, the UHMR reported.
The highest daily maximum recorded this September was 38.7°C in Demir Kapija on 1 September. The lowest minimum temperature was -1.9°C, measured in Berovo on 24 September.
Precipitation totals varied regionally: monthly sums ran from 9 mm in Skopje to 44 mm in Strumica. The single-day maximum rainfall was 36 mm, registered in Strumica on 3 September.
When compared with the long-term September average for the period 1991–2020, the measured monthly precipitation for the country was 48% below the multi-year mean.
UHMR figures show a pattern of generally warmer-than-average conditions combined with below-average rainfall for September 2026, with the southwest and Skopje area particularly showing drier-than-normal totals.
