Police say fires were set near cemetery and in Varoš neighbourhood
Authorities say the incidents happened on 13.08.2026, when the suspect reportedly ignited fires on three occasions at a location known as "Barakite" near the new city cemetery and in the Varoš neighbourhood.
In an official statement the Bitola police said: "SWR Bitola filed a criminal complaint against I.Č.(58) from Prilep on grounds of reasonable suspicion for the criminal offence 'causing a general danger'. On 13.08.2026, the accused on three occasions caused a fire at a place called 'Barakite' near the new city cemetery and in the Varoš neighbourhood."
The complaint initiates criminal proceedings for the offence of causing general danger; prosecutors will decide whether to press formal charges and pursue a trial. Police did not provide further details about the motive or the extent of material damage in their statement.
Local investigators conducted initial inquiries at the scenes and collected evidence, the police said, while the accused faces the potential penalties prescribed for the offence under Macedonian law.
Authorities warned residents about the risks of deliberate ignition and asked anyone with information to contact the police to help the ongoing investigation.
