Head of Uraldronzavod critically injured in car explosion in Yekaterinburg; driver killed
Tkachuk is reported to be in intensive care after an explosive device detonated under his car in Yekaterinburg; the driver died on the spot.
The head of Russian drone manufacturer Uraldronzavod, Vladimir Tkachuk, was seriously injured when his car exploded in Yekaterinburg; his driver was killed at the scene.
State media reported that Tkachuk is in intensive care and that doctors are fighting for his life.
Vehicle destroyed by an explosive device found under it
A local media outlet that cited police and security-service sources said the "the Mercedes" belonging to Tkachuk was destroyed by an explosive device placed beneath the vehicle. The blast badly damaged the car and left debris at the scene.
The driver, who some reports describe as a bodyguard, died instantly at the site of the explosion. Authorities have not yet released the driver’s name.
Police in Yekaterinburg have opened an investigation and security services are working at the scene to establish the cause and whether the attack was targeted. There has been no official statement yet about a possible motive.
