City prepares traffic measures as disruption continues
Officials warned of heavy traffic congestion, especially during the morning rush between 7:00 and 9:00 and the afternoon peak from 15:00 to 17:00, as commuters seek alternative ways to travel.
About 500,000 passengers use Zagreb's public transport each day, and the city said it will coordinate traffic through the Traffic Management Center and deploy 50 to 60 traffic wardens to keep key routes moving.
Authorities urged residents who must travel to organize shared rides and postpone non-essential trips where possible.
The municipal public utility company announced that some crews will continue collecting waste from hospitals, schools, kindergartens, nursing homes and other critical locations.
The union cautioned that significant street refuse accumulation is unlikely on the first day of action but left open the possibility of problems if the strike continues for several days.
