'Oncology' case: defence says multiple doctors were involved, individual liability cannot be sought

The defence in the so‑called "Oncology" case argued at a court hearing that multiple doctors took part in the treatment of several patients, and therefore individual responsibility for the whole treatment process cannot be established, the defence's technical adviser Vladimir Danilovski told the court.

Numbers and missing files, defence says

Danilovski told the hearing that for some patients between three and six medical professionals were involved in care, and in certain cases as many as eight. He also claimed that the Slovenian expert appointed by the prosecution did not have complete medical documentation for several patients.

According to the defence presentation, of 165 available documents on prescribed therapy for one particular patient, the expert Maja Radnik received 60. Danilovski also said that for another patient the court expert had not been provided medical records covering 11 years of treatment, but only records from the last few months.

The defence further noted that Nino Vasev participated in the treatment of six of the 31 patients who are charged in the case.

The prosecution charges Vasev, Simonida Crvenkova and Dragan Jakimovski with negligent treatment, alleging that a total of 47 patients were given inappropriate therapies and that there were deviations in dosing.

The trial continues with further procedural steps; the court is expected to consider the defence's objections to the expert documentation as the case proceeds.
