Split traffic warden paid €5,635 for August after heavy overtime
A high August payroll in Split—one warden earned €5,635 net after overtime and holiday allowances; officials have opened a review.
On 24 September 2026 it emerged that a traffic warden in Split received a net salary of €5,635 for August, while a colleague was paid nearly €4,600. The unusually large payouts follow a spike in reported overtime and additional allowances for holiday, shift and night work.
Overtime and allowances pushed a basic pay far above the norm
The basic monthly wage for a traffic warden is about €1,400; the final gross-to-net calculation for the €5,635 payment included large amounts for overtime and extra payments for working public holidays, shifts, nights and weekend days.
The €5,635 figure is close to the reported net monthly income of Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, who receives €5,738, and is roughly €1,360 higher than the net salary of Split’s mayor, Tomislav Suta, which stands at €4,272.
Another warden received almost €4,600 for the same month. Two other colleagues reportedly often log overtime as well, though their August paychecks did not reach the same levels.
City officials have launched checks into the high payments. The Banovina is reviewing the actual hours the wardens worked during the claimed overtime periods and is also checking how many fines they issued while on duty.
