Skopje puts new refuse trucks and mechanical sweepers into service

On 20 October 2026 the municipal operator Public Enterprise Communal Hygiene—Skopje began operating a new fleet of specialist vehicles for collecting and transporting municipal waste and for maintaining cleanliness on public and traffic areas across the city.

The donation from the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the City of Skopje added several types of vehicles to the enterprise's fleet: refuse trucks with capacities of 21, 17, 8 and 3 cubic metres, street-washing tankers, and specialised mechanical sweepers.

Container replacement and on-site cleaning

Alongside the vehicles, the operator is rolling out new waste containers across the city. "The enterprise continues with the installation of new containers intended for municipal waste disposal, and approximately 500 containers have been replaced so far. The teams of PE Communal Hygiene—Skopje also perform manual washing at all locations where the new waste containers are placed," the city enterprise announced.

Municipal crews will combine the mechanical capacity of the new machines with manual interventions at container sites, the enterprise said, aiming to improve collection efficiency and the appearance of public spaces.

The vehicles are already in use throughout Skopje for daily collection, transport of waste and the mechanical cleaning of streets and traffic areas, the city enterprise added.
