Chamber of Commerce to present proposal to change public holidays

The Chamber of Commerce will hold a press conference today, October 5, 2026, to present a proposal regarding public holidays and their economic impact in North Macedonia.

At the event the Chamber will outline the current system of holidays and non-working days in the country and introduce a draft of proposed amendments to the Law on Holidays.

According to the Chamber, the suggested changes aim "to optimize the number of non-working days, but also to contribute to greater productivity and economic efficiency."

Planned debate on business and labour effects

The Chamber expects the proposal to trigger a wider discussion about how the timing and distribution of holidays affect companies, employees and overall economic activity.

Details on specific legal changes, implementation timelines and any follow-up consultations with employers, trade unions or state bodies were not published ahead of the press conference.
