Foreigner arrested at Kafasan border crossing for using forged documents

A 38-year-old foreign national identified as F.Š. was arrested at the Kafasan border crossing (Qafë Thanë) after border police determined he had presented forged travel papers while attempting to leave North Macedonia.

Police stopped the vehicle and discovered fake documents

According to the Ministry of Interior, "Around 17:30, while leaving North Macedonia in a passenger motor vehicle 'Mercedes' with Kumanovo registration plates, border control by police officers was carried out, where it was established that the person had presented forged documents – a travel document, a driving licence and an ID card."

Authorities say the forged documents were used by the man to present himself as an Italian citizen. The vehicle involved bore Kumanovo plates and was stopped during routine exit checks at the crossing.

A criminal complaint has been filed against F.Š. for falsifying documents, an offense prosecuted under Article 378 of the Criminal Code. The Ministry of Interior reported the case to the competent prosecutor's office and police procedures are ongoing.

Police did not release further personal details about the suspect. The investigation is continuing to determine how the forged documents were obtained and whether others were involved.
