Strumica to build new primary school in Karposh

The Municipality of Strumica is preparing project documentation for a new primary school in the Karposh neighborhood to ease overcrowding at Sando Masev school and allow single-shift operation with extended-day care, Mayor Petar Jankov announced today.

New school planned where the population is growing

Jankov said the Karposh area has expanded with several residential complexes that are home to many young families, increasing the number of children and placing pressure on nearby schools.

"The municipal primary school Sando Masev has the most pupils. That is due to the new Karposh neighborhood, where the number of children is growing because of apartment construction. The school 'Sando Masev' is one of the largest in the country and we have a real need for a new primary school in that part of the city, all with the aim of relieving 'Sando Masev', and at the same time the recommendation for single-shift operation with extended stay will be implemented. As a Municipality, we are working on the project for a new school in Karposh, where there is also a plot earmarked for that purpose," Jankov said.

The mayor indicated that the new facility is intended both to reduce class sizes at Sando Masev and to make it possible for schools in the area to operate in a single shift, which local education authorities have recommended to improve the quality of teaching and organise after-school programmes.

Municipal officials now continue work on technical and design documentation; a construction timetable and budget were not announced in the mayor's statement.
