Student list 'Students Win' cleared for election by RIK

The Republic Electoral Commission (RIK) unanimously approved the electoral list "Student List – Students Win" at a session where all 19 members present voted in favor.

RIK members also adopted a decision to appoint a member and a deputy member to the commission in its expanded composition, following the proposal of the list submitter. At the start of the session, RIK member Marija Jovanović said the students had submitted a total of 69,099 legally valid signatures and that the list met gender-representation requirements and included all documentation required by law.

The student movement handed over the signatures to RIK after a weekend of signature-collection. Organizers said volunteers and supporters from across Serbia joined the effort, with many citizens queuing for more than six hours to sign in support.

At the event marking the transfer of signatures, the Archive of Public Gatherings reported that a column moving toward RIK numbered about 8,700 people. Students arriving at the RIK building were welcomed by brass musicians.

After filing the list, the students published a ballot with 250 candidates for the National Assembly. The top-listed candidate is Dr. Ilija Srdanović. The roster includes professors, physicians, artists, activists, entrepreneurs and representatives from various regions of Serbia.

On their website, the group explained the selection process: "We did not seek people who would look best on a billboard, nor people who for years know how to negotiate for a place on an electoral list. We sought people whom we believe can enter institutions, perform their work responsibly and not forget why they are there." The Narodna Srbija coalition has withdrawn from the race and announced it will support the student list.
