Strumica police and local companies to distribute free trailers for woodcutting machines
Free trailers will allow woodcutting machines to meet road-safety rules and operate legally during the firewood season.
The Strumica Regional Police Directorate, together with socially responsible companies from the southeast, has launched a programme to distribute additional equipment free of charge so that woodcutting machines comply with the standards of the Law on Road Traffic Safety. The measure is intended to let these machines operate legally during the seasonal firewood harvesting and delivery period.
“This project is being carried out so that the livelihood of this category of citizens, who are active during delivery of firewood to households, is not curtailed,” said Dejan Eftimov, head of the Strumica Regional Police Directorate.
Trailers as towable equipment for machines
The items to be handed out are additional towable units—specifically trailers—on which woodcutting machines can be mounted. Recipients will receive the trailers free of charge and will be able to attach their machinery to them for transport on public roads.
By fitting machines onto approved trailers, operators will meet the traffic-safety requirements and may legally take their equipment onto the road while continuing to cut and split firewood for households.
Authorities say the initiative aims to strike a balance between road safety and preserving the income of seasonal woodcutters who supply households with firewood. No numbers or distribution timetable were announced.
