Typhoon "Delfin" makes landfall in eastern China
The storm made landfall in Taizhou (Zhejiang) with winds near 151 km/h; evacuations and mass flight cancellations followed.
Typhoon "Delfin" made landfall on Sunday evening along China’s eastern coast, bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall. The storm struck the city of Taizhou in Zhejiang province with winds of around 151 kilometers per hour.
Authorities ordered preventive evacuations for more than 300,000 people as a precaution. Airports in Shanghai cancelled over 1,300 flights, disrupting travel across the region.
In Zhejiang province officials suspended all activities at sea, including ferry services and cruise operations, to reduce risks to passengers and vessels.
Warnings for floods and landslides
Meteorologists warned of an elevated risk of flooding and landslides as Delfin moves inland, forecasting between 200 and 400 millimetres of rain in the coming days. Emergency services and local governments were put on alert to respond to flash floods and slope failures.
Heavy downpours associated with the same system had earlier affected northern Taiwan, where authorities reported intense rain before the storm reached mainland China. Officials continue to monitor weather developments as cleanup and damage assessments begin.
