Skopje taxi driver arrested after threatening Chinese passenger with a knife and taking cash

A 29-year-old man from Skopje was detained in the Aerodrom municipality after, police say, he threatened a 26-year-old Chinese national with a sharp object and took money from him.

The police report says the suspect, identified only by his initials A.K., had driven the passenger, identified as J.T., in a private taxi to the requested destination and then demanded an amount larger than the actual fare.

Passenger refused to pay extra fare

When the passenger declined to pay the higher sum, the taxi driver allegedly produced a sharp object, threatened him and took cash from him.

The incident was reported at around 1:50 a.m. last night, and the suspect was detained in Aerodrom. After full documentation of the case, the Aerodrom and Dračevo police units will file a criminal complaint for "robbery" under Article 237 of the Criminal Code.

Police say the investigation is continuing and that procedural actions were completed before the case is forwarded to prosecutors.
