Tashko Grujovski — Blagoja Grujovski’s brother is a well-known folk musician

Tashko Grujovski, the younger brother of one of the country's best-known folk singers Blagoja Grujovski, has his own long career in traditional music and is recognized as an accomplished instrumentalist and songwriter.

They come from a prominent musical family: their late father, Mate Grujovski, was a respected composer whose songs were recorded by many performers, and he also served for many years as the chief editor at MRTV. That background, the brothers say, gave them an early and thorough education in the craft.

Careers and instruments

Tashko is considered among the top double-bass players and tambura performers in North Macedonia and is credited as the author of numerous folk songs. He is also the composer of the song "My Friend," which Blagoja performs together with Goce Pejkovski.

In addition to the double bass and tambura, Tashko also plays the Irish mandolin and has recorded renditions of traditional pieces, including the song "Serbez Donka Has Been Married."

The brothers have appeared together on stage and in recordings; two years ago Blagoja released a music video for that song on his birthday and marked the occasion with a promotion held in a well-known restaurant in Skopje attended by many fellow singers and musicians.

Although Blagoja has higher public visibility as a solo singer, Tashko's role as an instrumentalist, arranger and songwriter makes him a respected figure within the folk music community in the country.
