Pance Toshkovski: 'Safe City' to be implemented in Ohrid, Struga, Kicevo and Debar from 12 October
The minister said the command centre will be ready within two weeks and Frontex will direct activities to the western border starting early next year.
Minister of Internal Affairs Pance Toshkovski visited the Regional Police Directorate (SVR) Ohrid and the Regional Centre for Border Affairs West on 25 September 2026 to review security conditions and police work in the area.
Toshkovski said preparations for the command centre needed to operate the “Safe City” system at SVR Ohrid are nearly finished. "From 12 October we plan for 'Safe City' to begin operation across the entire territory of SVR Ohrid, meaning the areas of Ohrid, Struga, Kicevo and Debar," he said.
He added that the remaining tasks around the command centre should be completed within the next two weeks, after which the system will be put into service in this part of the country.
During the meetings in Ohrid, Toshkovski also discussed police activities on combating crime and corruption, illegal drug trafficking and distribution, maintaining public order, and improving road safety.
The minister announced that, for the first time, Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, has agreed to direct some of its activities to North Macedonia’s western border. "We expect the joint activities to begin at the beginning of next year, which will further strengthen control of the western border," Toshkovski said.
Toshkovski said the Ministry will continue modernising police work by introducing new technologies and strengthening international cooperation to increase citizens' security.
