Toshkovski: "Safe City" started fining motorcycles for speeding from yesterday

Minister of Internal Affairs Panche Toshkovski announced that the "Safe City" system began, as of yesterday, to automatically detect and fine motorcycles that exceed the speed limit.

How the extension will operate

Toshkovski said authorities found a technical solution enabling motorcycle offences to be automatically recorded in areas where the system is deployed.

"Let those who pretend to be bikers and do not follow the rules not be surprised that they will be subject to sanctions by the 'Safe City' system," Toshkovski said.

He stressed the measure is primarily aimed at protecting motorcyclists themselves as well as other conscientious road users.

For now, the automated enforcement for motorcycles applies only to speeding violations.

Officials expect to have the first official figures on the number of motorcyclists recorded and sanctioned through the "Safe City" system later today.
