Trump says migration and energy policies are 'killing' Europe
Trump told reporters in the Oval Office that migration and energy policies are the two main forces "killing" Europe and urged tougher border controls.
U.S. President Donald Trump again urged European leaders to adopt tougher measures against illegal migration, saying migration together with energy policy are the two main factors "killing" Europe.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump pointed to what he described as two urgent problems demanding immediate action from European authorities. "Two things are killing Europe. The first is migration, and the second is energy," he said, calling on European governments to tighten their border policies.
Pressure on borders and a recent surge toward Ceuta
Trump's remarks came amid increased migration pressure on European frontiers, including a recent wave toward the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. He warned that countries were allowing people in who, in many cases, would not assist them.
"You are allowing people in who, in many cases, will not help you. I'll be gentle, they simply will not help you," Trump told reporters.
He has previously warned that immigration and so-called "green" energy policies form a "two-headed monster" that is destroying Europe, an argument he has repeated during public appearances and remarks to the press.
The comments add to a string of sharp critiques from the U.S. president about European migration and energy strategies, pressing leaders to respond with firmer border controls and different approaches to energy policy.
