Donald Trump made his first public appearance after a heavy defeat for his Republican Party in the midterm elections, focusing the event on planned construction work in Washington.

At the gathering he praised a proposed ballroom for the White House and laid out further proposals that include building a triumphal gate and renovating an old golf course in the U.S. capital.
Trump framed the projects as part of a broader vision for Washington, emphasising their symbolic value rather than immediate political aims.
“For a president it's a dream to have a ballroom. This ballroom would be the best anywhere in the world. We have made Washington beautiful and everyone is talking about it,” Trump said.
The appearance comes as Republican leaders and candidates assess the election results and consider next steps; Trump’s focus on large, high-profile construction proposals signals a move toward visible legacy projects.
