Donald Trump says he deserves the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize but doubts he will receive it
Trump told reporters he believes he merits the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize but said the Norwegian Nobel Committee “has a reputation” against awarding people like him.

President Donald Trump said he believes he deserves the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize but voiced skepticism about his chances when speaking to reporters in the Oval Office.
“I don't know what their decision will be. They have a reputation that maybe they don't give the prize to people like me,” Trump said, commenting on the prize the Norwegian Nobel Committee will announce on Friday.
Claims, nominations and contested results
Trump again cited a range of international actions since his return to the White House last year as grounds for consideration, saying he has been involved in eight conflicts since taking office in January. Several leaders have publicly declared they nominated him, including leaders from Cambodia, Israel and Pakistan, although those nominations could not be independently confirmed.
He also referred to an episode in which Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado handed him her 2025 Nobel medal in January, an event he described as an indirect honour. “It's time for that. But I was greatly honored to receive it indirectly last time from the laureate, who said that no one in history deserves it more than President Trump,” he told reporters.
Observers note that some of the disputes Trump says he helped resolve have since flared again, and parties to several of those conflicts contest the U.S. president's diplomatic role. Fighting has resumed in parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and along the Cambodia–Thailand border, among other areas.
