Three air tractors mobilised to fight Sopishte wildfire

Three air tractors are preparing to take off to tackle a wildfire in the municipality of Sopishte, behind Mount Vodno, the director of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue, Stojanche Angelov, said.
Firefighters from BPPZ are on the scene, and four Pinzgauer vehicles of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue have also been dispatched to the area. Pinzgauer are high‑mobility all‑terrain utility vehicles originally built by Steyr‑Puch and widely used for field and emergency work. This afternoon a separate fire broke out near Vlokovo in the Skopje area, where low vegetation was burning; authorities reported that the Vlokovo fire is gradually being brought under control.
A larger blaze that started near Jazince has already been extinguished, officials said, crediting the rapid response by firefighters from Tetovo, support from local residents and intervention by the police.
Crews remain on alert in the wider Skopje area as temperatures and wind can change conditions quickly; authorities said aerial and ground resources will continue patrols until the situation is stable.
