Serbian tourist seriously injured in Halkidiki after falling from water scooter

A 36-year-old tourist from Serbia was seriously injured yesterday afternoon after falling from a water scooter at Glarokavos beach in the municipality of Kassandra, Halkidiki.

According to reports, the woman fell into the sea while operating the water scooter, suffered a head injury and lost consciousness. First aid at the scene was provided by her husband and by the person responsible for the company that rents water sports and recreation equipment.

The injured tourist was first taken by ambulance to the Kassandra Health Center, then transferred to the General Hospital of Halkidiki, and afterwards to Papanikolaou Hospital in Thessaloniki, where she was admitted for further examinations.

The Second Port Authority of Nea Moudania detained a 53-year-old man who was responsible for the company that rented the water scooter to the woman.

He has been charged with endangering another person and causing bodily injury by negligence, after authorities found that the scooter had been rented to a woman who did not have the legally required licence to operate a water scooter.

Local authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident and the woman remains under medical observation in Thessaloniki.
