Students in grades 4 through 9 at OOU "Kiro Gligorov" will begin the 2026/2027 school year with distance learning because the Ministry of Education and Science is carrying out construction work in part of the school building.

Work, responsibility and temporary measures

The investment is being implemented under the Project for the Improvement of Primary Education (PEIP), with the Ministry of Education and Science as the project lead. The ministry provides the financing, the basic design and its revision, coordinates the process, appoints the contractor and the supervision, and monitors the execution of the works until they are completed.

According to the original timetable, the construction was to be finished before the start of the new school year, but the works are still ongoing. For that reason, the school administration of OOU "Kiro Gligorov" requested that pupils from fourth to ninth grade be organised to follow lessons online.

The Ministry gave its consent for these pupils to temporarily follow distance learning until conditions are created for safe in-person teaching.

Goran Gerasimovski, mayor of the Centar municipality, said the priority is to ensure an uninterrupted start to the school year. "The most important thing is that the children are safe and that classes start without further delays. Because the construction activities carried out by the Ministry of Education and Science are still not finished, students from fourth to ninth grade will temporarily follow online classes. We asked the Ministry of Education and Science for information on the exact deadline and the schedule for completing the works, because we expect them to be finished as soon as possible and for students to return to school benches as soon as possible," Gerasimovski said.
