UHMR issues orange heat alert for North Macedonia
The Hydrometeorological Service put the whole country under an orange heat warning and urged people to take precautions.

Published: 24 August 2026, 09:06. The Hydrometeorological Service (UHMR) issued a weather alert for today, warning of significantly elevated temperatures across North Macedonia.
UHMR placed the entire country into an orange warning phase and said: "High temperatures across the entire country!"
The orange level indicates a notable deterioration in weather conditions that may affect health and increase the risk of heat-related incidents. Authorities and medical services warn that vulnerable groups — older adults, small children and people with chronic illnesses — are particularly at risk during prolonged exposure to high daytime temperatures.
Health and emergency officials recommend staying hydrated, avoiding outdoor activity during the hottest hours, seeking shaded or air-conditioned spaces and checking on relatives and neighbours who might need help. Workplace safety measures and limits on outdoor work during midday should be considered where possible.
The Hydrometeorological Service said it will monitor conditions and issue further updates if the situation changes. Local municipalities and emergency teams remain on alert for possible heat-related calls and secondary hazards such as fires.
Residents are advised to follow UHMR bulletins and local authorities for the latest information and practical guidance.
