Hungarian national caught at Tabanovce with €200,000 in undeclared cash
Customs officers found three hidden pouches totalling €200,000 during a vehicle search; €10,000 returned and €190,000 retained.
A Hungarian national was stopped at the Tabanovce border crossing after customs officers discovered a total of €200,000 in undeclared cash during a vehicle inspection.
Details of the search
Because of suspicions, the vehicle was selected for a detailed check. Officers found a black cloth pouch between the gearshift containing €65,000.
A further inspection of a backpack on the rear seat revealed a small black pouch hidden beneath a laptop with €37,650 inside. In a suitcase also on the rear seat, among clothing, officers located another black pouch holding €97,350.
Of the total undeclared cash—€200,000—€10,000 were returned to the passenger in accordance with the Law on foreign exchange operations, while the remaining €190,000 were retained with a Certificate for retained funds.
A misdemeanor complaint has been filed against the person, the Customs Administration reported.
