Vasil Gogov warns: ‘The biggest Balkan derby’ awaits as Vardar face Pelister

Vardar will host Pelister on Sunday in what the home side's captain called “the biggest Balkan derby” — the first El Clásico of this Super League season. The reigning Macedonian champion arrives at the match unbeaten, holding a perfect record of eight wins from eight games.

Key factors ahead of the clash

Speaking at a press conference before the game, captain Vasil Gogov warned that the encounter will be demanding on several fronts. He stressed that the fixture is important not only for keeping Vardar top of the table, but also for maintaining team energy, motivation and a positive atmosphere.

"The motivation is here. We know what these matches mean. The biggest Balkan derby awaits us. It will be a tough match, not only to defend the first place, but also for energy, motivation and keeping the good atmosphere, as well as the defence. We went through a hard month behind us with many matches and trainings. Fatigue is present, but all of that is left behind us in matches like these. We will give our maximum and above all I hope for a full arena," Gogov said.

The match is scheduled for Sunday at 17:45 at the Jane Sandanski Sports Centre in Skopje. Vardar's current unbeaten streak and Pelister's rivalry guarantee a charged atmosphere in the stands.

Coaches and players on both sides will have to manage physical wear from a congested calendar, while Vardar aims to protect its flawless start to the season in front of home supporters.
