Bavaria vice premier Hubert Aiwanger found dead in Berlin hotel
Bavaria's vice premier, 55, was discovered in a Berlin hotel room; prosecutors say cause of death is still unknown and an autopsy is expected.

Hubert Aiwanger, Bavaria's vice premier and former state economics minister, was found dead in a hotel room in Berlin, prosecutors announced. He was 55 years old.
Investigation opened to clarify circumstances
Prosecutors said the cause of death has not yet been determined. "The exact circumstances in which he was found cannot yet be disclosed for investigative reasons," the prosecutor's spokesperson said.
Berlin police have opened an inquiry to establish how Aiwanger died and to rule out possible involvement by a third party. Authorities said an autopsy is expected to be ordered to determine the medical cause of death.
The announcement prompted an immediate response from both Bavarian and federal offices, which said they were monitoring the investigation. Aiwanger had previously served as Bavaria's economics minister in addition to his role as vice premier.
Officials gave few further details while investigators work to secure the scene and review evidence. No timeline was provided for the autopsy or for when more information might be released.
Because the inquiry is ongoing, prosecutors asked the public and media to refrain from speculation until the formal investigation yields conclusive results.
