Vlen: Elections will seal the end of DUI

Ruling party Vlen says the next parliamentary elections will mark the end of DUI’s political influence, but urges the Albanian party to first explain why no one inside DUI accepted responsibility after the local election defeats.

Vlen warned that less than a year ago voters in Albanian-majority municipalities drove DUI out of local government, and that any fresh electoral confrontation will only deepen the party’s setbacks. The statement comes after DUI publicly criticised Vlen for not replying to calls for early parliamentary elections.

"Ali Ahmeti continued to sell fog with the old trick of withdrawing, Bujar Osmani lost Cair and remained vice-president and the main player for the DUI throne, Bajram Redzepi lost Tetovo and remained in the party leadership, and Faton Ahmeti for the electoral defeat was rewarded with two new party posts, vice-president and chief of Ali Ahmeti's cabinet. In DUI, obviously, no one takes responsibility for defeat; instead the defeated are rewarded. The same story repeats in Arachinovo, Bogovinje, Tearce, Struga, Zhelino and Saraj. They lost the elections, but no one stepped down, no one was held accountable and no one gave up the armchair," Vlen said, accusing DUI of failing even in smaller localities such as Mala Rechica.

DUI accuses Vlen of silence on early elections

Earlier the same day DUI criticised Vlen for more than 24 hours of silence after Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said the government would respond positively if the opposition requested early elections. DUI interpreted Vlen’s lack of comment as evidence that the party fears the electorate’s judgment.

Vlen’s message frames the dispute as both a political prediction and a demand for internal accountability inside DUI: before campaigning on the timing of national elections, Vlen insists the Albanian party must explain why local leaders who lost were not removed or sanctioned.

DUI responded with a short message titled "DUI: Vlen is silent on early elections", reiterating its criticism of Vlen’s delay in taking a public stance.
