VMRO-DPMNE: Venko Filipche sent Andrej Zhernovski to smear opponents, party says
Ruling party rejects claims made at Andrej Zhernovski's press briefing and says the opposition fears accountability for alleged 2024 corrupt deals.

VMRO-DPMNE has accused SDSM of spreading false allegations and named Venko Filipche as the orchestrator behind a press appearance by SDSM official Andrej Zhernovski.
The ruling party issued a written statement after Zhernovski’s briefing in which he alleged that Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, National Bank Governor Trajko Slaveski and the Public Prosecutor’s Office remained silent over claims that large sums were being transferred to North Macedonia through Alta Bank following Aleksandar Vucic’s election defeat in Serbia.
VMRO-DPMNE rejects the accusations as diversion
In its reaction, VMRO-DPMNE said Zhernovski had been "sent" by his party leader and accused the opposition of resorting to slander out of fear of being held accountable for past actions.
Translating the party’s wording into English, VMRO-DPMNE said: "Both Venko and Zhernovski know that the shady deals ended with their downfall in 2024, and that is what pains them — that they can no longer steal money with Vucic's people with whom they rigged million-euro tenders. The real fear is with his boss Venko, who is aware that the remnants in the prosecution and judiciary cannot forever save him from crimes, as they tried to do for the modular hospital."
The party also argued that opposition figures have lost citizens’ trust by acting in service of personal interests and that they now fear the justice and accountability that, according to VMRO-DPMNE, is gradually catching up with them.
