Latvian detained in Bogorodica after 10 migrants from Egypt found
Police stopped a Fiat Tipo in the Gevgelija-area village of Bogorodica and found ten Egyptian migrants; the driver R.S. (59) from Latvia is in custody.

On the evening of August 17, 2026, police in the Gevgelija-area village of Bogorodica detained R.S. (59), a Latvian national, after discovering ten migrants from Egypt inside a passenger car. The vehicle was a Fiat Tipo bearing Skopje registration plates.
Details of the stop and subsequent handling
Officers who stopped the Fiat Tipo found the ten Egyptian nationals in the vehicle during a control check. The migrants were taken to the Reception Transit Centre "Vinoyug" in Gevgelija for accommodation and further processing.
R.S. (59) was handed over to the Gevgelija Police Station. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), "after full documentation of the case appropriate charges will be filed against him."
Authorities said the initial action was carried out during a routine vehicle check in the village of Bogorodica. The car’s Skopje registration attracted attention during the inspection, which led to the discovery of the migrants.
The MIA confirmed that the migrants are now in the transit centre while police continue formal procedures. Further investigative and procedural steps will determine the exact criminal charges to be brought against the detained Latvian national.
